The 2018 Subaru Love Promise Customer Commitment Award

The Subaru Love Promise Community Commitment

Centennial Golf Tournament  –  E F

Our thanks to MAITA SUBARU's Glen Berni, General Manager and Darrel Lewis, Service Manager, for supporting the Buddhist Church of Florin (BCF) 11th Annual Golf Tournament held on June 1, 2019. The BCF was founded in 1919 by Japanese-American farmers from the greater Sacramento communities of Florin, Mayhew, and Elk Grove. For the past 100 years, the BCF has served the community by hosting social and cultural events, providing monthly low-cost lunches for seniors, and sponsoring youth athletics. 155 golfer participated in this year's fundraiser and, thanks to Maita Subaru's support, the tournament was an enjoyable and successful event!

Nature Detectives - Kids Explore Outdoor World  –  janice K

Nature Detectives is a weekly afterschool program launched in February 2018. By the close of the 2018-19 school year, the program served 55 children in kindergarten through third grade in five Sacramento area schools. Each program is featured in theme-based 8-week segments. Learn more at Nature Detectives bring their curious minds to these weekly workshops. This inquiry-based outdoor learning program blends the disciplines of both art and science; and creates opportunities for children to problem solve, search for clues, ask questions, draw and note observations in handmade Nature Detectives field journals. We have listened to sounds we hear in the wind. We have made rainsticks and read stories about weather, created birds nests and learned about bird habitats, made butterfly fans and talked about their life cycle. We also made and flown small kites to explore the power of the wind. The program activities also encourage children to take risks, build confidence and work independently and as a team to have fun while they learn.

Changing the lives of children with hearing loss.  –  Licia K

Thank you so much for your $500 contribution to the CCHAT Center. Your generosity enables us to continue changing the lives of children with hearing loss. We would not be able to provide our specialized services without the support of companies like you. With your help, we are able to provide the services necessary for our students who are deaf or hard of hearing to learn to listen, develop spoken language and speak for themselves. Your support makes it possible for these very special children to thrive and flourish in the mainstream of life. After 22 years of serving young children with hearing loss, we now have former students graduating from college with some going on to achieve postgraduate degrees. They are contributing to their local communities and pursuing their dreams without the limitations often associated with hearing loss. This past year, CCHAT experienced a full circle moment when we hired a former student as our newest teacher of the deaf. We greatly appreciate your support of our program!

Services for Children and Families Impacted by HIV  –  Zoe F

At Sunburst Projects, we work to provide comprehensive support services that strengthen and empower children, individuals, families, and communities to ensure those impacted by HIV/AIDS reach their highest potential. We offer programs such as medical case management, mental health services, childcare assistance, educational and therapeutic camps/conferences, support groups and more. Our clients have access to our clothing closet, food bags, 340b pharmacy program, and housing assistance. Sunburst Projects strives every day to break down the barriers of stigma and build a safe community. In 2018 Maita Subaru became a key partner for Sunburst Projects' largest annual fundraising/awareness event - Dining Out For Life, helping us serve the HIV community in Sacramento. This event raises funds and awareness for Sunburst Projects programs and helps us fight stigma by promoting HIV/AIDS education and awareness. Because of the incredibly generous support from Maita Subaru, the 2018 event was the most successful yet. We can't thank Maita Subaru enough for all the support and everything they do for the community. Because of funds raised by Dining Out For Life we are able to enhance our youth programs and offer more to the community we serve.

80 Blankets Donated to UC Davis Cancer Patients  –  Erica B

On Friday the 13th, 2018, Erica, Linda and Jenaye of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) met Subaru at the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center to donate 80 blankets and 10 arts and crafts kits to cancer patients, along with many messages of hope that were written by Subaru customers during Subaru Loves to Care in June 2018. We were accompanied by three of our Honored Heroes: Omar, Taylor, and Garrett. Taylor and Garrett received their treatment from UC Davis, so it was an opportunity for them to give back. Bethany Crouch from Good Day Sacramento filmed our delivery and featured Lea Rosa from Subaru, our three honorees and one of the pediatric doctors. They all shared inspiring words about the partnership and what the support meant to them. Although we couldn’t give the blankets to patients directly, we thank Subaru for their continued partnership with LLS to spread even more hope, warmth and comfort to cancer patients. We cannot do this type of support without them!

Nature Detectives Program Scholarships  –  Janice K

Nature Detectives is a new series of fee-based, weekly after school programs in Sacramento. Students in kindergarten through third grade spend an hour outdoors studying the plants, trees, insects, grasses and puddles of their school campus. They use magnifying glasses to observe objects up close, then write, draw and record the evidence they found in Nature Detectives notebooks. Students make bird nests, compare their hands to the size of bear paws, walk the "Alphabet Trail" looking for letter shapes in plants, and learn about forest habitats by studying pine cones from different trees. These childhood experiences in the outdoor world, provide the inspiration for them to become environmental stewards. The registration fee for six students to enroll in this fun outdoor learning program is covered by a donation from Maita Subaru.Thank you Maita Subaru for supporting Nature Detectives and helping us reach more children!

Safe & Sober Grad Night 2018  –  April N

The Mira Loma Class of 2018, Boosters, and the Grad Night Committee would like to express our sincere appreciation for Maita Subaru's $500 sponsorship of our Safe Sober Grad Night. Grad Night was a huge success, but would not have been possible without your sponsorship. One hundred eighty-seven graduates celebrated the completion of one chapter of their lives and the beginning of their next chapter. Most importantly, it was done in a Safe & Sober environment, ensuring not only their safety, but the safety of those around them, and those on our roads. Graduates enjoyed Chik-fil-A sponsored food, all night bowling, laser tag, arcade games and a variety of other interactive games and activities. Sacramento area businesses and individuals donated a variety of raffle prizes ideal for young adults entering the workforce or attending college. Due to your generosity, the Grad Night Committee was able to provide attendance sponsorship to twenty-one graduates who otherwise would not have been able to attend due to financial reasons. Again, our sincere thanks.

Blanket Delivery to Local Blood Cancer Patients  –  Erica B

Erica Brown, fundraising campaign assistant, and Kineth Urans, campaign manager for Student Series, attended the Maita Subaru blanket drop off on Thursday, July 6 at the Sutter Medical Center Sacramento. LLS met Amy Medovoy from Sutter and Lea Rosa and Inna Welborn from Subaru next to the hospital gift shop. The fact that everyone met there was fitting as LLS and Subaru were giving a gift of 80 blankets, 10 craft kits and several care cards to the hospital for their cancer patients. As everyone went outside to get the blankets from the Subaru cars, Erica had a chance to talk to Inna more about this experience and other things Subaru does for our community. Lea was also very passionate about this opportunity throughout the coordination process with LLS. Although LLS and Subaru weren't able to give blankets directly to the patient themselves, Amy and her colleague Jennifer Johnson talked about how grateful they were to receive so many blankets. They mentioned that last year's blankets made their patients smile and the additional amount plus the craft kits would go a long way in making patients happy. They even brought out their hospital dog to be in the photo.

Maita Subaru Loves Pets!  –  MICHAEL D

I think the Beatles said it best: "All you need is love!" And Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary, their volunteers and the staff at Maita Subaru poured a ton of love into an amazing day of pet adoptions! It was an incredible experience to see the community come together and open their homes and hearts to all the beautiful animals that were adopted at the event. The animals found their forever homes and the people found their new furry family members! Every animal that was adopted was another life saved, by that measure the event was a huge success! I would like to thank Happy Tails and their selfless volunteers for all of their hard work and dedication. The generosity kept going as Maita Subaru paid for all of the adoption fees. The entire day was a home run filled with joy, laughter and most of all LOVE! Pass it on...

Subaru Loves Pets  –  RHONDA K

What an amazing time we had at Maita Subaru! Happy Tails Pet Sanctuary partnered with Maita Subaru for an adoption event. AND on top of that, Maita Subaru paid for all of the adoption fees. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Twelve cats were adopted that day. Plus, a very kind soul adopted one of our old cats. It’s always so gratifying to see them go to their furrever homes. A big thank you to Maita Subaru for making this happen!!! Rhonda K. Center Manager Happy Tails

Maita Subaru Loves Learning!!  –  Michael D

David Lubin Elementary loves learning and boy are they good at it!! Principal Richard Dixon, the entire staff and the children at this school are really exciting to be around and it is contagious! I left there with a rejuvenated sense of pride for the future of our community and country! On top of their fantastic staff, David Lubin Elementary is a STEAM school (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics), the philosophy is to instill a love of scientific inquiry and application and to empower students to pursue a life of choices by learning in an interdisciplinary environment that emphasizes the strong work ethic and critical thinking needed to solve problems in the real world. Can you say AWESOME?!?! I am beyond proud to have been part of Maita Subaru's contribution of school supplies to this cutting edge institution of learning! Thank you Maita Subaru!

Share The Love - Leukemia Lymphoma Society  –  Michael D

I was fortunate enough to be a part of the Subaru "Share The Love" blanket presentation to the Women and Children's Center at Sutter General hospital. Words are not enough to describe the incredible resilience and courage of the amazing women and children receiving treatment at this facility! In a world where most of us get so caught up with our trivial day to day activities, it was truly an inspiration to see these strong women and children facing their fears head on and smiling at the challenge! No doubt the incredible staff here have a huge part to play in not only their treatment, but the compassion, love and positive energy they share is unmatched! After speaking with the staff, I learned that the blankets are something of a badge of honor for the children and that most can track their treatments by which blanket they received. The facility itself is amazing in its own right as well, including "Sophie's Place," a music center where the children get together to sing songs, play instruments and even write their own songs! I cannot thank Maita Subaru enough for their beautiful contribution they have made to the courageous women and children here and for allowing me to be a part of it! Maita Subaru's commitment to their community is simply inspiring! We all need to keep sharing the love!!

Growing Healthy Children Therapy Services  –  Robyn C

This week our therapy center for children with special needs received an amazing donation! The wonderful team from Maita Subaru brought up a Butterfly Sanctuary complete with a bird feeder and bird bath! That afternoon our families enjoyed the flowers and added water to the bird bath. We cheered on a girl with autism who practiced her balance and coordination while walking up the hill to the Butterfly Sanctuary and trimming the flowers! This will be a wonderful addition to our summer camp on gardening and nature. Thank you so much to the team Maita Subaru! We are so grateful for your commitment to the community and the Love Promise!

Maita Sharing the Love with Youth in Sacramento  –  Suzi D

Wind is thankful to once be the beneficiary of Maita Subaru's Love Promise. Thanks to Maita and Subaru, young people like George (not his real name) are given hope. George came to Wind when he was 17 and still attending High School. George's girlfriend was 17 and pregnant. George's parents kicked him out when they found out about the baby. George was going to be a dad, but still wanted to finish high school. George worked a part time job, for as many hours as he could while he saved up money to provide for his family. Wind offered him a space for him to keep going, to finish school and provided him a place to live and save up money. George stayed with Wind until he and his family are able to move into a house together. George and his girlfriend eventually got married and have a beautiful son. George maintains an excellent relationship with Wind to this day. Without the generosity of our community, Wind would not be able to help young people like George. Thank you Maita and thank you Subaru for dedication to the young people of Sacramento! -Suzi Dotson, Executive Director Wind Youth Services
